Cool Guild Wars Radio

It would be awesome if we had an option to play a radio that would go through gw1 and gw2. Listen to different stations including the ones just for our community. GW Community is big enough to have one and its not too late or impossible to do. Not only that have the radio available for our mobile phones. Get updated about GW while your too far from a pc with the system requirements to play the game.

Errr ok now you have me puzzled can you expand on that concept.

I often have the tv or radio playing when I am gaming on the computer and if I am not gaming I sometimes have an internet radio station playing.

What specifically would make this a GW radio.

There are plenty of internet radio stations, including GW related as well as player DJed.... Do you just randomly spout the first thing that comes to mind? Its getting a bit old seeing you trying to make this into a game that its not. Suggestions are one thing, finger Tourette's is another... please be certain that what you are suggesting doesn't already exist...

Blade Radio and GWEN Radio are both very popular player-run radio stations focused on GW.
Not sure about Blade Radio, but I know for a fact that GWEN can be listened to on your phone (or at least on an iPhone), as I am currently listening to it. All you have to do is click the Winamp player while browing the site from your phone.

I swear, you put no thought or research into any thread you make...

Well I am glad the thread came up because I gad no idea there were any radio stations related to GW, in fact my natural scepticism still tells me to disbelieve the whole idea.
Guess I will have to go check.

I am convinced found both stations, now I am assuming the op is suggesting these and possibly others could be merged into the game in some way.

Well its been suggested before that GW have its own com system for game chat, something I support since it would tend to get players to use one com system.
As for the radio well I could find a use for it during festivals and it could be fun to have a few music channels to have on during play the rest of the time.

Assuming you mean something like team speak WoW had implemented this exactly thinking the same thing, but no one used it. Vent was just better or more convenient. I don't think it would be used enough tbh.

Know what you mean I have worked my way through all the comm programs over the years and everyone has there favourite.
Problem is because there is such wide choice you cannot rely on any given party member having the right one installed.

Now for pvp teams I can see voice chat being a game winner any team using voice is likely to have an edge over teams that do not.
Pve parties again its just easier to use voice to coordinate things while your fingers are playing the game.

Few if any humans can use a mouse and keyboard to play the game and type messages at the same time.
I think if enough effort was put into having a default comm program it would encourage new players to go with that one and once you get a reasonable number of players using it there would hopefully be a snowball effect.

Have used voice in every other multiplayer game I have played except GW

An ingame voice chat would present a few problems - anyone who uses any form of chat ( vent or ts ) would know it can slowly eat up bandwidth .A few players is fine but a few thousand may cause bigger probs. Also would lag effect it , how do you make areas private for chat.Theres possibly a few other questions but look at it this way - ingame theres many bugs still to be solved and would anet have the staff or budget to do this.
As for radio - we have the 2 listed who do the work off their own back but if anet did one then theres possibly a very big problem and i think its down to copyright and playing licence.I do recall something a few years ago in a paper - make that many years like 20 - there was a story about restruants and offices playing the radio and there being some sort of thing brewing where the record companies were after cash from these places and it boiled down to the places using the radio were commercial ( shops etc ) and something about needing a special licence as radio broadcasts are for personal use.
This may just boil down to something in the uk ( bbc owns 100% of the tv licence we have to pay and yes if we dont pay ( its around 120 pounds a yr just to be able to watch tv - even if its watching sky or dvds/videos and yes its retarded ) we get taken to court and so on.
Also how would anet do it for the other languages - not everyone speaks english and i doubt many non english primary speaking players would sit and listen unless it was in their own language.
Usually the easiest most simple ideas are the hardest to get going.
But thats my views and what can i say ( apart from down with the tv licence and down with bbc - uk players will know what i mean )

Plus in GW2 they are adding in the ability to do some music settings of your own.

"Finally, no matter how fantastic a game’s music is, when you hear the same music for the thousandth time, you start wanting to change things up a bit. Many players will simply turn the game music off and play their own collections. The problem is that an external music player has no context as to what’s going on in-game. Guild Wars 2 will offer a solution for this as well. We’re giving players the option of choosing external music playlists that the game’s audio engine will use as a replacement for the default in-game music. Players can choose different playlists for background ambience and battle music, for instance. Additionally, when appropriate, such as during cinematics, the game can revert back to in-game music temporarily to give the best possible cinematic experience, then resume the custom playlist when it’s done."

re voice chat in GW and GW2

I take the point that anet may not have the resources to set up servers to run their own voice chat program.
I was thinking more along the lines of recommending one program in an attempt to encourage as many as possible to use it at least for GW games.

I started with Roger Wilco then moved to Gamevoice, followed soon after by Ventrillo and Teamspeak and my friends use Skype.
A quick search for chat programs yielded Mumble, Vox.IO, Mowhawk Voice Team Talk and Voice chatter.

That's 10 possible chat programs that players could be using so the chances of any party getting together and having the same software installed is remote indeed and there are probably more.

If the players could agree on one then all a group would need to know what the channel details the host was using to fairly quickly join in.
Having to install ventrillo to get on one party then teamspeak for another would be stupid.

Since I doubt we the player community could decide on one I am suggesting that Anet recommends one if you tell first time buyers of the game that a particular program is recommended for voice chat in GW they will install it and if enough do that it will become the default chat program and the rest of us will lose out if we do not swap to it.

Might not work and there may will be problems but I do not see any way voice chat will work in the game if nothing is done.

With lots of money and a great staff they can do anything. Trust, Anet can.
